Volunteers Needed for "Listen In!"

The Corte Madera Library is launching a new program called “Listen In!”

Librarians and volunteers will visit assisted living and senior homes to read aloud to interested residents. We are starting on December 4 at Aegis in Corte Madera. Initially, readings will take place every other Thursday at 2 p.m., for about 30 minutes. If the program is successful and enough volunteers are found, we will increase the readings to once a week and perhaps extend the time.

Librarians will assist in the selection of readings, based on suggestions from the audience.

If you would like to participate by reading aloud in local assisted living or senior homes, please contact the library at (415) 924-6444 or (415) 924-6219. Simple application forms for volunteers are available in the Library, or we would be happy to send you one.

The Book Place

News from The Book Place

1608 Grant Avenue, Novato
415-209-0212

For those of you considering handmade gifts this year, the Book Place has a supply of Holiday craft and cookbooks out on display--along with other Christmas/Hanukah books/videos/music. Come by and find something special.

And consider bringing your gift list along. With people trying to stretch their holiday dollars as far as they can, why not give someone used books? We have a lot of unusual or hard to find items, or some old editions a collector might love to receive. Come by and check it out--you might be surprised at what you find. If you can't find just the right book, or want to let someone pick out their own, pick up one of our gift certificates.

It's a gift that gives twice! All proceeds from sales at our Book Place benefit library materials and programs.

The Book Place is run by the knowledgeable volunteers of the Friends of the Marin County Free Library a nonprofit organization devoted to raising funds for the libraries. You can help by volunteering at the store, by becoming a member of the Friends and by donating books and buying books at The Book Place.

Our store hours are Tues/Thurs/Sat 10-4, Wed and Sun Noon-4, and Friday 10-7; we're closed Monday. For more information about the Friends and The Book Place, visit our website: http://marinlibraryfriends.marin.org.
